Most people are so foolish! Just because the Mayan calendar ended, they thought the world was supposed to end! Get real people! It just meant that the nearly 400-year cycle of that calendar system was coming to an end and moving on to the next nearly 400-year cycle. I wonder if these same people believed that the world would end when we went from 1999 to 2000.
